I Am Resolved ...

not to make any resolutions this year. Well that's not quite true. I thought it was until just a short while ago when printing out my new cleaning plan for the year ahead I remembered that just before Christmas I had resolved never to do a huge clean in the week before Christmas ever again. Instead, I would spread it out over an entire year.

Now, this is scary stuff. You see, a few years ago I made the same resolution and didn't even get January's cleaning done. To attempt it again means that I'm either insane or extremely determined or have a memory like a sieve! However, I've already made a good start. Without even realising that I was fulfilling one of the tasks for January, I got in and cleaned out my sewing desk this morning BEFORE BREAKFAST. Okay, breakfast was later than usual this morning, but not that late!

Of course, there's still several other items on that list to do before the end of the month, but hey, there's still almost four weeks still to go. Besides, I'm on holidays.

Interestingly, when I typed in my title into Google, I found the following lyrics:

I am resolved no longer to linger,
Charmed by the world's delight;
Things that are higher, things that are nobler,
These have allured my sight.

I am resolved to go to the Saviour,
Leaving my sin and strife;
He is the true One, He is the just One,
He hath the words of life.

I am resolved to follow the Saviour,
Faithful and true each day;
Heed what He sayeth, do what He willeth, He is the living way.

I am resolved to enter the Kingdom,
Leaving the paths of sin;
Friends may oppose me, foes may beset me,
Still will I enter in.

Chorus:
I will hasten to Him,
Hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, Greatest, Highest,
I will come to Thee.

That seems to be a good way to end this post and start this year!

That hymn has some good resolutions that we should accomplish in 2011.

It's funny, but I saw your title and instantly started singing the hymn :). You sound like you are doing great so far, with cleaning. I actually hate making New Year's resolutions because I get mad at myself when I break them!

Jen, I've never heard the song but I did like the words. Perhaps it's better known in other parts of the world.

Sharlene, great resolutions for 2011 AND 2012.

I love that hymn. I don't make any resolutions either because I don't keep them.

The hymn is lovely. I haven't heard it before, but I like it so much! It's just the thing I needed to read. Thank you for sharing it :)

As for New Year's resolutions, I never make them. I have learned from my parents that I should strive to be the best I can, regardless of the date. Procrastinating till New Year accomplishes nothing for me... Because if I firmly want to better myself in some aspects, then I will do so from then onwards. If I lack the determination, then looking at the calendar won't help me one bit ;)

I'm sure that for some people, the New Year's resolutions work. However, I don't think it's for me. And if it's not for you either, Jules, then you don't have to be ashamed about it. If it's any consolation, I'm not the most diligent with my housework :) But I don't feel as if though I have to keep everything impeccably tidy.
