Eating My Words

Tonight I was forced to eat my own words. Literally.

DH and Sons#3-#5 and DIL-to-be#3 decided to take the kayaks out and do some fishing. I'm not sure how it came about but I assured DIL-to-be#3 that they hardly ever caught fish and never enough for a decent feed for us all.

They went off on their fishing venture, and I joined them a short time later. It looked like a perfect day to be on the water - from my vantage point anyway.

Although, they had a far better vantage point than any front car set could offer:

With some indifference I heard about the ones that got away and that a fish or two had been caught. I'd heard all this before and knew that my plans for chicken for dinner were still in tact.

But excitement mounted as they reeled in fish after fish. They caught not one, not two, not three, but TEN fish in total. Son#1 turned up with his family and The Most Adorable Granddaughters#1 and #3 were treated to the sight of so many fish all at one time. Son#2 brought The Most Adorable Granddaughter#4 down to see what was happening but she was suitably unimpressed with the fish (can't say I blame her) but showed interest in DH and Son#4 who were still out on the water in the kayaks. And despite DH and Son#4 ending up in the water and swimming with a shoal of small fish, the total stood at ten.

Enough to feed all the family and more.

I guess we'll be having chicken tomorrow instead.

That reminds me of the fishing trips that we took when I was a child. We ate fried trout 3 times a day. I still love trout but it's hard to find around here.

I'm not a fish lover although I wish I was because it is so good for you. I did eat some, but not nearly as much as the rest of the family, and I declined when they decided to have fish again for dinner last night. But I'm glad they caught some because they were so obviously pleased with themselves!
