Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

There is a billboard in Auckland that is causing outrage amongst Christians (I'm not going to link to it because I consider it to be extremely offensive and this blog is family-friendly). It is undoubtedly blasphemous and questions some of the fundamentals of the Christian faith - namely that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and was God in human form.

The saddest thing of all is that this billboard was erected by a church. What I don't get is this: if they don't believe any of the above, why bother to call themselves Christian?

Oh that's right - they had an explanation for that. I can't remember the exact words but it was to the effect that there are many ways for Christians to look at Jesus' birth.

Perhaps. But unless those ways are in line with Scripture then they are deceiving themselves. And others.

In Matthew 16:15 Jesus asks His disciples, "Who do you say I am?"

Today He still asks that question. Can you say as Peter did (v16) that "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God"?

Or do you prefer to be like those that erected the billboard and make Jesus to be whatever you want Him to be?

The choice is yours.

So many groups who call themselves Christian don't know Christ from Santa Claus. We may have to change our name.

I say that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

To discount his birth as not being a miraculous event, is to discount He was God. It is to discount the prophecy from Isaiah of His coming, which He fulfilled perfectly.

In effect, to take away the truth of who Jesus is, is to take away so many Scriptures that it leaves you with little else.

As you said, many people would rather make Jesus into what they want Him to be, than to accept Him for who He says He is.

It is very sad... all who proclaim to be Christians are not truly "Christ-Followers" which is what the term Christian means.
