While we were enjoying a gorgeous Spring day, residents of Christchurch were reeling from the earthquake and subsequent after shocks that shook their city in the early hours of the morning (follow the link for pictures).
Earlier in the week I had promised The Most Adorable Granddaughter in the World#1 that when she came on the weekend that we would plant up some pots but on Friday it was not looking like gardening weather. Even Saturday morning at the time the earthquake hit (and we woke with that sense of "What was that?" but not realising - we're a long way from the epicentre) it was teeming with rain and gardening still seemed out of the question ... but thankfully we were wrong.
The Most Adorable Granddaughter#1 had her heart set on buying pink flowers so we headed off to the garden nursery where it seemed that every other person in town had the same idea on this beautiful day (i.e. to garden, not buy pink flowers) and bought pink flowers - along with purple and white and yellow (my least favourite colour in the garden).
The Most Adorable Granddaughter#1 was most anxious to water the plants and to make sure the pots were clean (which her Nana obviously doesn't care too much about going on the condition of said pots). We also put some flowers in a pot for The Most Adorable Granddaughter#1 to take home including a "dragon plant" (Snapdragons). However she decided that she needed more colour and picked some daffodils and planted them in soil. I hope she's not too disappointed when she discovers they won't grow!
And what was The Most Adorable Granddaughter in the World#2 doing all this time? Sleeping. But she did wake for a photo with Nana.

The earthquake was covered in our newspapers, too, and I'm so glad you and your family are all right.
