Models

The last time it snowed in our city was over a hundred years ago. It stilled hasn't snowed in the city. Sleet, yes. Hail, yes. Snow, no. However some of the higher suburbs and outlying areas experienced snow on Monday, as these pictures taken by one of DH's colleagues show:

So it seems ludicrous that on what must have been the coldest day on record for a long time I was sewing spring skirts for The Most Adorable Granddaughters#1 & 2. Nor did the cold weather stop them from modelling the dresses once they were completed.

Jules, I LOVE those skirts! Did you use a pattern, if so, what one! I always like that style!

The models are absolutely gorgeous. They look so vivacious in the photos, that I can imagine them dancing around and showing off their new dresses. I really don't know how all of your granddaughters are so adorable, Jules. You are so lucky.

On a side note, I have never seen that much snow in real life. I know it means that the winter in New Zealand is very cold - and I'm not envying you. Hope it gets warmer soon!

Daisy, here are the links I used. This one for a child's skirt: http://indietutes.blogspot.com/2008/11/tiered-skirt-aka-twirl-skirt.html
This one was very helpful and had more detailed instructions than the previous link: http://www.jcarolinecreative.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=JC&Screen=PSKIRT
This one also helpful:

Just google "Peasant skirt" or "tiered skirt" for more patterns. One day I'm going to get brave and make this for myself. I've also seen it done in patchwork ... hmmm, that couuld be an idea.

Mary, yes our seasons are reversed. I guess we're so used to seeing pictures of white Christmases when we're sweltering in summer and wondering if we can do a cold Christmas dinner that the reversal in seasons never surprises us.

Ohtawen, I thought we lived in one of the few places in the world that doesn't get snow. Thankfully it didn't last long.

That snow looks so nice and cool. It was 107 degrees here today. The skirts look cute.
