Hundreds of years before Jesus' birth the prophet Isaiah prophesied that one from the house of David would sit again on the throne. I don't know about you but I tend to skip over the long genealogies in the Bible. Most make great bed-time reading - if you can't get to sleep and want to. Only occasionally do I recognise a name or three. However several commentators would have us believe that both of Jesus' earthly parents were of the line of David, in which case, Jesus' birth well and truly fulfilled this prophecy.
