Rejoice Again!

It could have been worse.

Another second ... a different decision ... if DH had not taken the defensive tactics that he did ... if ... if ... if ...

Five people in the car. Five lives. A boot-load (trunk-load) of stuff.

Sunday afternoon and DH and I were returning Son#4 and Son#5 and a friend of Son#5's to University. A return journey of only two hours.

Except today it took over five.

We were travelling at one hundred kilometres an hour when suddenly a small truck suddenly turned directly into our path.

Immediately I thought, "We have nowhere to go: we're going to hit him."

And hit him we did.

Waiting for the crunch I thought, "This is how it happens. No, my kids are in the car!"

DH - when he saw the steel of the truck coming for the side of his head - turned his head and closed his eyes. While waiting for the car to crumple into our laps, I apparently gave a very good rendition of a girl scream.

When we came to a stop, the sweetest sounds to my ears were the voices of our three passengers in the back seat as they tried to make sense of what had happened. They were alive! Amazingly - and something we continue to thank God for - not one drop of blood was shed. We were all unhurt (apart from DH complaining of two sore fingers). The driver of the other vehicle and his two young passengers were unhurt. Our car left barely a mark on his truck.

Incredible as it may seem - given the speed and the circumstances - this is the only damage:

(It looked worse in real life.)

As I read the post that I wrote and published just an hour before the accident I am filled with awe and wonder and thankfulness. God was our help and shield. He did keep our souls from death. He was merciful. I am fully convinced that God protected us today.

Oh my goodness!!! Thank God no one was hurt! Jules, I'm so happy nothing, apart from the damage on the car, grave happened! I shudder to think what could have happened... Looking at the photo of the car, one would think it was much worse.
The Lord is surely keeping an eye on you and your family, and that's truly a reason to rejoice :)

Ohtawen and Sharlene, Thank you for your comments. When DH filed a report with the police, the officer read through the report and then said, "This could have been really bad." It just made us thankful all over again that God protected us.

Tears fill my eyes. I have been through a horrible accident. 15-passenger van roll over with our whole family involved. The news reported deaths, but mercifully, there were none. Injuries, yes. But God spared 12 lives (one as yet unborn)! I will blog about it someday . . .

So grateful for your protection and God's mercy!
