Weekend

Last weekend, while visiting with Son#2 and his family, we sat down after dinner on Saturday night to play a game before the younger children went to bed. (Blank Slate for anyone who wants to know.) Not that long into the game and Son#2 seemed distracted, checking his phone and getting up several times to look out the window. Since the curtains were closed, we were literally in the dark (pun intended) until he shared what was going on. Once he let us in on the secret, the game was abandoned and we, too, were looking out windows, going outside in the cold, and eventually bundling up the children and heading up to the nearest lookout, along with what appeared to be a large proportion of the local population.

But as a result, we were treated to a magnificent display of Australis Aurora (Southern Lights) as a result of the solar storm. Unbeknown to us, our hometown was experiencing an even more incredible display, being somewhat further south and also having less light pollution.

But wherever in the country one happened to be that night, the sight was one that won't soon be forgotten (and has provided a wonderful topic of conversation over recent days).

My camera only captured this ...

But Son#2 shared these ...

And, further south, Son#1 had these photos to boast ...

(I'm so, so tempted to cast on for Starfall in colours of the Aurora.)

The heavens declare the glory of God;

And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Day unto day utters speech,

And night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language

Where their voice is not heard.

Their line has gone out through all the earth,

And their words to the end of the world.

In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,

Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,

And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.

Its rising is from one end of heaven,

And its circuit to the other end;

And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Psalm 19:1-6, NKJV
