Autumn

As we were heading out this morning, DH commented that autumn is evident all around. The mornings are cooler, the leaves are changing colour, the smell of damp earth rises to greet us, and our garden is looking particularly dismal. Yesterday, we spent time outside weeding and tidying, but there is still so much to do and decisions to be made: Do we keep the plum tree that only the birds benefit from because the fruit is so high or do we remove it and give the walnut and cherry trees more room? What vegetables do we want to attempt to grow and where is the best place to plant them? What needs to be done now and what can wait until after winter?

DH is slowly filling our woodshed so that in a few weeks (nights? hours?) we can sit in front of a roaring fire and scare the chill away. I'm always ready for a fire sooner than he is.

All this talk of cooler weather makes me ever so grateful that we had at least one warmish day over Easter (despite the rest of the country experiencing abysmal weather) and were able to enjoy some outdoor time with Son#3 and his beautiful family.
