Up, Up, Up

Petrol has gone up yet again. It seems to rise almost weekly. In the last two years the cost of fuel has just about doubled. Now at the pump we can expect to pay about NZ$2.12/litre. Let's see if I can do the maths here: that's equivalent to $9.65/gallon or $8.03/US gallon. Put that way, it's scary!

Of course that's NZ dollars. In US dollars that's $7.25/gallon or $6.04/US gallon. And that's still scary!

Most of our petrol (if not all) comes from overseas so I guess it's to be expected that it would be expensive here. Problem is food goes up too because it costs to transport it and the extra costs are passed on to the consumer. Ditto for other goods so you feel like you're paying twice over.
