Today we saw Son#1 and DIL#1 off on the train. They're heading up north to pick up a vehicle they've just bought and will drive it home tomorrow. Meanwhile we have the joy of looking after The Most Adorable Granddaughter for a WHOLE weekend!DH and I know just how blessed we are with our family. Not only do we have five wonderful sons but we now have a beautiful DIL and of course, The Most Adorable Granddaughter in the World (who is meant to be going to sleep right now).
DIL#1 first entered our lives about six years ago. She belonged to a group of friends that Sons#1 and #2 hung around with, and within a few months, Son#1 had fallen hard. I don't think he's ever fully recovered!
DIL#1 was not raised in a Christian home but committed her life to Christ some time in her early teens. I had the privilege of leading DIL#1 and her mother through a study on baptism and saw them baptised on the same day along with DIL's brother. We're still praying for DIL#1's father to come to Christ.
Son#1 went off to study after completing high school but regularly returned home - not to see us but to see the girl who would one day become his wife. He returned home to live after he gained his qualification - but only for a year - and then he married his high school sweetheart.
It was perhaps in the last week before their wedding that I fully appreciated my DIL-to-be. I would often notice how stressed and tense Son#1 was during those last few days when there was so much to do but as soon as DIL#1 turned up at our home to help with the preparations and plans he would become so much calmer and relaxed.Since their wedding I'm thankful that I've been able to witness their evident love and happiness and mutual respect. And it's exciting to see them building a home together and raising their daughter within the framework of a Christian home.
I made this quilt for their wedding gift. It's a to-the-floor queen-sized bed quilt and a variation of the log cabin pattern. It's machine pieced and extensively hand quilted (right click on the photo to open to view the hand quilting). I battled back and neck pain to get the quilt finished less than a week before their wedding. It looks wonderful on their bed but I do wonder about the wisdom of choosing a cream quilt when I consider how dirty Son#1 is when he returns home from work!
