Finally

Seven years ago we were celebrating a baby and an engagement. Three years before that, we were celebrating an engagement, a baby and a graduation. It appears that our family can not celebrate just one momentous occasion at a time.

Last weekend we had the joy of attending a Baby Shower for DIL#3 (and of course we must acknowledge Son#3 had a hand in it even if he wasn't allowed at the Baby Shower). It was a fun time and DIL#3 was really blessed. (Unfortunately I didn't take photos but she looked amazing and very happy.)

That was Saturday.

Sunday evening (due to poor planning apparently - or so I've heard) Son#4 and his lovely girlfriend announced their engagement. This has been a long time coming - at least for us who have seen the signs and have been anxiously waiting for this announcement. To say we are pleased is an understatement. We are absolutely thrilled - as are all The Most Adorable Granddaughters who love this aunt-in-waiting. (Incidentally, The Most Adorable Granddaughter#5 - the baby who made her appearance the last time our family had an engagement - has decided that Son#4 and his bride will live with us when they're married so that their nieces can see a whole lot more of them. I suspect that with Son#4 dividing his time between here and Wellington - where his fiancée lives - the nieces feel that they've been cheated of special time with them both.)

As far as I know, no date has been set. There can be so much to do and plan when engaged, that I hope they enjoy these early days and the obvious joy that it brings them and so many others and be able to look back on that when all the wedding madness sets in.

For our family, had not a particular heartache occurred almost thirty years ago, then this particular love story would not have been written. This story is one of healing and God's graciousness to our family and we look forward to the next chapter in this story: that of officially welcoming Son#4's fiancée into our family.

Much sooner, we also look forward to welcoming this latest grandchild. And if it so happens that it's a boy (still a surprise for all concerned) I'm going to have to come up with a moniker for this Most Delightful Little Man. (Wait, I might have just found one.)
