Many Hands

Doth A Most Delicious Pudding Make.

We're super organized this year. The first day in December and our Christmas puddings are already happily bubbling away on the cooktop.

We would not have been so organized - as is our usual custom - except that a number of weeks ago DIL#1 asked when we were going to make the puddings and - since this December is unusually busy for some members of the family - we actually set a date ahead of time. Perhaps planning ahead in this fashion could become a new part of the tradition?

It started as it always does … rather sedately …

but quickly turned into joyful chaos …

I love how year after year the older cousins and siblings help the younger ones …

that everyone is involved in some way …

that the one whose recipe started it all watches over everyone with a benevolent smile (and ensures DH doesn't deviate too much from the original) ...

and the couple who - wisely or unwisely - began the tradition thirty-five years ago delight in the mess of it all …

that there always has to be a taste test at some point in the proceedings …

that only a few ever make it to the end …

and that at the end of it we have two weighty Christmas puddings that fill the air with the spicy scent of Christmas …
